Knowing God in an Age of Information Overload
In a world drowning in information, we face a profound spiritual crisis: the pursuit of knowledge versus the pursuit of knowing God. This message takes us back to the Garden of Eden, where two trees stood before humanity—the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the tree of life. Today, we live in an age of misinformation, malinformation, and disinformation, where everyone claims to know the truth about politics, conspiracy theories, and world events. Yet the warning from Genesis remains urgent: the knowledge of good and evil brings death, while the tree of life—Christ Himself—brings transformation. The invitation to follow Jesus is not merely about walking behind Him, but about being with Him, as Mark 3:13 reveals. We are called to move beyond the endless rabbit holes of information and conspiracy theories, beyond the pride of knowing more than others, to the superior wisdom that comes from intimacy with God. Paul's declaration in Philippians captures this perfectly: everything else is garbage compared to knowing Christ. The question confronting us is deeply personal: Is Christ enough for us? Or do we feel compelled to know everything about everything, becoming like God in our own understanding? True wisdom begins not with what we know, but with who we know—and as we contemplate Him, we are progressively transformed into His image, from one degree of glory to another.
